Ivan Stanchev
Project Manager
-
Tell us about yourself...
My name is Ivan Stanchev, I’m 32 years old, originally from Pirdop, and I still live here. I graduated from the Technical University of Sofia with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. In my free time, I enjoy working on 3D printing. The most interesting project I recently worked on was creating models for educational purposes in medicine for a university in Germany.
-
How would you describe yourself in 3 words?
Curiosity, determination, and again, curiosity. -
What did you dream of when you were young, and what did you want to become when you grew up?
As a child with a sweet tooth, I first wanted to become a pastry chef. Later, I thought of going into banking. But soon enough, reality steered me towards technical sciences. My father owns a car repair shop, and whether I liked it or not, I grew up around him and his work.
-
How and when did your career at Aurubis Bulgaria begin?
My first interaction with the company was as an intern in 2015, while I was still in the university. I completed two internships—first in the Engineering department and a year later in the Refinery. During my second internship, a position for a project designer opened up, I applied and I was selected for it. After a few years in this role, I started managing small projects as a Project Engineer. Now, I oversee the entire project program for scheduled maintenance at Aurubis Bulgaria. -
Why did you choose Aurubis Bulgaria, and what do you value in the organization?
It was a fortunate coincidence—a position opened that was directly related to my field of study. The internship turned into a permanent job almost effortlessly, and I didn’t even notice how ten years flew by. The opportunity to grow within the company is very important to me. I also value working on large-scale, challenging projects.
-
What is your role in the company now, and what brings you the most satisfaction?
As a Project Manager, my current role involves coordinating and organizing all activities during scheduled maintenance. My greatest satisfaction comes from the successful implementation of new projects and the uninterrupted operation of equipment until the next scheduled maintenance.
-
What are you like, and what do you enjoy outside of Aurubis Bulgaria?
I love spending time with my family. I have a two-year-old son, and we enjoy playing outdoors so that he gets properly tired and sleeps soundly afterwards. I also enjoy travelling and practicing my hobby of riding a cross-country motorbike. -
How do you see your future in the company and beyond? What do you dream o?
I want to continue developing as a professional and successfully implementing new projects at our plant. I still dream of having some more free time to travel. With the holidays approaching now, we are planning to visit Europe’s Christmas markets. -
What would you say to your future self?
Stay the same person, but grow as a professional. -
What would you say to your colleagues at Aurubis Bulgaria?
It’s not scary to work once in a while—just kidding, of course. I want to encourage them to keep being the true professionals they are.
Will you be our new colleague? There's still a spot open for you in one of our departments!
