Say hi to Yannick! Since April 2023, he has been working as Health & Safety Advisor at Aurubis Beerse. He advises the various departments on the safety of his colleagues. In February, Yannick will start the training of Prevention Advisor Level 1.

How did you start working at Aurubis Beerse?
Through LinkedIn, I was contacted for an interview. I immediately found the idea interesting. I already knew the company and I have friends who work here. The industrial environment, the challenging projects and Aurubis' good reputation also really appealed to me. The fact that the company is just ten minutes from my home made the choice even easier. -
What does a typical workday look like?
No two days are the same at Health & Safety. My work ranges from carrying out risk analyses and supporting departments to daily checks in the foundry. I ensure that personal protective equipment is tailored to the working conditions and that it is always available. I also approve order forms for safety reasons. We work daily on the safety awareness of our colleagues, which is a top priority at Aurubis.

How do you experience the cooperation and atmosphere with your colleagues?
I come into contact with other departments a lot and that cooperation is super. I find the social aspect of my job a real added value. In the Health & Safety team, the atmosphere is always good. We can always count on each other. A good example is the challenge in our team to come to work by bike as much as possible. Do you cycle? Then you put a dash behind your name. It became a fun, and of course healthy, competition that motivated us all to leave the car at home. Good for your body and mind, good for the environment and good for the team spirit. A triple win-win in other words! -
Where do you find fulfillment from in your job?
For me, the fulfillment is in the difference I can make for my colleagues. For example, the aluminium jacket project: we are working on designing a comfortable and safe jacket specifically for our copper foundry. So it must be adapted to hot temperatures and must be easy to wear with protective equipment. The investment in comfort and safety is important. I also notice that colleagues spontaneously come to me with ideas or problems. I appreciate that enormously.

What makes Aurubis a unique employer?
Aurubis is committed to its employees, and you can feel it. There are regular fun events and gifts, and you also get meal vouchers and group insurance. Recently, the management baked pancakes for all colleagues at an internal event. Moreover, Aurubis offers opportunities to grow. In February I will start my training for Prevention Advisor Level 1, a one-year course. And thanks to the support of Aurubis Beerse, I can follow that training and combine it with my work. -
What moments at Aurubis Beerse stick with you the most?
It's often the small, spontaneous moments that make working here special. Just think of a nice chat with colleagues during a break or going for an afternoon walk together. But also the bigger moments, like when everyone works together on an important project, make an impression. It is nice to see how we can work as one team towards a common goal. Those moments make me enjoy going to work. -
Who is Yannick outside work?
I spent much of my childhood in Beerse, where I played football and went to school. I now live in Gierle. Sport plays an important role in my life; I love running or going to the gym to stay healthy. I also enjoy going out for a drink or a meal. A good balance is important to me.
