Training company with a future: Aurubis welcomes new apprentice year

After two years of pandemic-related restrictions, Hamburg's First Mayor Dr. Peter Tschentscher personally welcomed all the new apprentices to the Hamburg site of multi-metal supplier Aurubis again this year together with Aurubis CEO Roland Harings. First Mayor Dr. Peter Tschentscher:

Training at Aurubis is a good start to a successful professional life. The company's innovative processes are of utmost importance for modern life and a sustainable economy. Copper and other metals produced by Aurubis are the basis for climate-friendly energy systems, electromobility and digitalization. Vocational training in this industry offers the best prospects for the future.

At the beginning of the new training year, 77 young people start their careers at Aurubis in Hamburg. As the world's most sustainable metallurgical network, Aurubis trains 14 different apprenticeships in a promising industry for its own needs. In addition, Aurubis and the neighboring Veddel district school are once again offering young people the opportunity to start their careers through the "10-Plus" apprenticeship preparation program via an entry-level qualification in the metal and chemical sectors.

Roland Harings, Chief Executive Officer and Labor Director of Aurubis AG, addressed the new Hamburg apprentices in his speech: "I congratulate all of the apprentices on your decision and cordially invite you to work together on Aurubis' future as a competitive, innovative and sustainably oriented multi-metal supplier. Here you can make a difference and actively shape the future of the industry. "

Axel Brand, deputy plant manager, explains: "We are pleased that we were once again able to fill all apprenticeship positions this year. This is no longer a matter of course. The fact that every apprentice successfully passed their final exams last ear and more than 85 % of the graduates decided to be hired by Aurubis afterwards makes us proud and shows that our investments in modern, forward-looking training are already paying off today."

As Hamburg's second-largest industrial trainer, Aurubis is thus once again demonstrating its ongoing commitment to meeting the needs of the next generation of skilled workers. This is also demonstrated by Aurubis' Innovation and Training Center (IAZ), which opened in 2019, where apprentices will find flexibly designed group, learning and workspaces that create individual conditions for optimal learning. In addition, Aurubis is continuously developing its training concept to meet the constantly changing demands. Since this year, for example, this has included equipping all technical apprentices with a personal tablet for a modern, digital working and learning environment.

In Lünen, North Rhine-Westphalia, where Aurubis' German recycling site is located, 17 young people are also starting their apprenticeships this year. Aurubis offers seven different apprenticeships there, making it one of the largest training companies in the region.
