Teach First

Teach First supports children and young people as they graduate from school and pursue further education.

The social situation and neighborhood in which children live determines their success in school and in life later on. The non-profit organization Teach First, which has been active since 2009, sends temporary additional teachers (called fellows) to schools in socially disadvantaged areas of Hamburg. Fellows support students in subjects that are relevant for tests and offer separate after-school clubs, projects, and other types of support. They evaluate students’ work and assess their learning progress, create networking opportunities, support school development, and develop local partnerships.

The goal is to prevent students from dropping out, to help them graduate with the best certificate possible, and to assist with their transition to further education.
